MOTC (Ministry of Transportation and Communication) in Taiwan announced the decision to release more unused spectrums for telecom operators to conduct 5G service experiments, Taipei Times recently reported. The ministry aims to prepare the nation for transition to 5G. Besides from the 800 megahertz (MHz) already in use to measure water and natural gas consumption, public protection and disaster recovery, NCC (National Communications Commission) remained cautious about designating unused spectrums for 5G service experiments as Taiwan has a relatively smaller economy and it will have to closely watch how other Asia-Pacific nations use their frequency spectrum. The government also plans to include frequency bands 3.3GHz-3.8GHz, and 24.25GHz-29.5GHz for 5G service developers since the frequencies are most likely to be used for 5G commercialization in advanced nations.
